The Importance of Keywords

top 11 keyword research tools

Just about now everyone has heard about keywords and how important they are if you want to draw attention to your website or product line. The Internet is filled with bloggers talking about keywords and their SEO importance.

Getting traffic to your website is not just about content. That comes after you have made a path to what you are saying or selling. Content does not attract the attention of search engines. Their algorithms are designed to capture keywords and direct you to the website containing that keyword.

If you want lots of traffic to your website, then you need to learn how to use keywords correctly.

What are Keywords?

What keywords do is describe your website and its theme. This is not a specific and detailed description of your website or product you are trying to sell. Instead, keywords try to capture the essence of your website and communicate that to the different search engines.

The purpose of the keyword is to tell the search engine what you are looking for. Once the search engine gets your message, it in turn searches for the most useful and relevant websites that may give you the information you want to read.

Of course, you do not want to stuff your website with keywords or place them out of context as that would make your website seem amateurish, hard to read and boring. Just use keywords naturally throughout your content in order to get the traffic you want.

How to use Keywords?

You have options on how to use keywords. You can use one keyword by itself throughout your website or you can turn to keyword phrases. Keyword phrases are constructed by using between 2 to 5 great descriptive words.

For example in your search, you could use the keyword dog and be given millions of websites that use the word dog as a keyword. Or you can cut your results down by turning to a more specific keyword phrase. If you type in the keyword phrase ‘dogs that do not bark’ then you cut your results down dramatically.

top 11 keyword research tools

One way to use keywords to draw attention to your website is to know your audience. Learn what words they use when they search for a product like the one you are selling or writing about.

Knowing your audience helps you design the right keywords to attract your audience’s attention. Make sure you understand the subtle differences in the different versions of English used around the world. Changing a keyword from American English to an equivalent term in British English, may get you more customers over the long run.

top 11 keyword research tools

Another way to construct good keywords is - do not over think the issue. In other words don’t try to be academic when your target audience uses common terms only. Using everyday language will include attracting highly educated people but using difficult academic words will exclude a large portion of your target audience.

How to Find Keywords?

You can do the hard work and think up and create your own keywords. You are intelligent enough to figure out some common keywords to use to help draw traffic to your website.

The only problem is, you may think up those keywords that get very little use by your target audience. Those keywords may only get up to 10, 50 or even 100 clicks a day and you miss out on those keywords that attract thousands of clicks each day.

But there is an easier way to find the popular keywords. You can turn to one of the many top keyword research tools, like the ones we showcased in this post, to help you find those elusive keywords that will attract thousands of people to your website.

keyword research

These research tools come with a database filled with millions of keywords and their spelling variations. You do not need to include every variation in your website to boost your traffic. Search engines automatically include the different variations in yours or your target audience’s search.

To illustrate this, the simple terms keyword, keywords and keyword phrases generate almost 900,000,000 searches per day. Yes you read that right. Almost 1 billion searches every day for those 3 simple terms

You can see how important it is to find the right keyword and use the right keyword research tool to help drive traffic to your website.

The smart move would be to pick one of the 11 keyword tools we reviewed in this post that fits you and your purpose best.

One Thing to Watch Out For

Search engines are getting very sophisticated. As they improve from year to year, their strategies and algorithms change. These algorithms target different keyword use and one of the strategies they have turned against is keyword spamming or stuffing.

top 11 keyword research tools

What keyword stuffing or spamming does is over use the keywords you have selected to help boost your web site traffic. With changing search engine requirements you may get them angry if you use too many keywords on each of your web pages.

As we said earlier, if you do keyword stuffing or spamming, your content loses its professional look and touch and can get quite boring. You may turn off your readers and lose out on their business if your content is not flowing just right.

How to Choose Keywords for Your Web Site

top 11 keyword research tools

There is a trick to choosing the right keywords to boost the traffic to your website. Keyword research tools cannot always help you here, they can only provide data and suggestions. Here are some tips on how you can choose the right keywords for you and your business:

  • Know your topic - it helps if you know what you are writing about. This is your starting point as all keywords do not point to every topic.
  • Know your audience - who are the people you are trying to attract to your product and web site? Knowing your audience helps you develop good keywords.
  • Learn the right language - know what language your audience speaks and use the common, everyday words they use. That helps their searches and gets them to your web site.
  • Write great content - keywords will help bring traffic and you can use your content to develop great keywords, but your content is what keeps your audience on your site. Make sure what you write is what people want to read and keep it interesting.

Some Final Words

There are millions of websites on the Internet. The competition for Internet user's attention is fierce. One way to get your head above the crowd is to make sure you use great keywords.

The top 11 keyword research tools listed above will provide you with a helping hand in finding those great keywords. All you have to do is pick one or several of them to help you create those keywords, keyword phrases or long tail keywords that grab the search engine's attention and boost you up in the rankings.

  • Barrywesley says:

Your article on the top 11 key ward research tools is very useful and informative. Especially for starters like me. Most times starter get lost and do not really know what to do. And most times ends up using the wrong key word. I also observed  that each of the keywords tool has its own unique and peculiar way of functioning. The one that really took my attention the most is the jaaxy

  • Snap Brisk says:

Very informative post about keyword research tool.

Jaaxy is a first in the list and it is one of the best tools especially for affiliate marketers. I love to use SEMrush it’s another incredible all in one SEO tool, but its quite expensive 100 dollars per month, so I have limited possibility in searches. This tool is mainly for SEO professionals, however, I love using more tools at once.

Google webmaster tool I am using on a daily basis, they do have as well a keyword research tool, but to get access you have to register with google ads. Once I tried their tool and the information was inaccurate. For my potential keyword, I got a result saying: Easy to rank, monthly traffic is from 1000 to 10 000 people. While SEMrush told me that particular keyword has over 60 difficulties to rank, and finally Jaaxy confirm great traffic around 5000 but QSR was over 200.

Personally, I would love to recommend Jaaxy! It’s a very accurate tool that covers all English keywords. In SEMrush and even Ahrefs, you must choose a country US, Canada, UK etc.

Thank you for sharing your article

  • Jyl says:

In your summary you said ‘make sure you use great keywords’. I couldn’t agree more. And keywords aren’t just one word descriptions. They’re phrases – just like you said. It’s not about using ‘dog’ it can be about using ‘dogs with diabetes’ or dogs who love to wear t-shirts’. People don’t realise it, but the use keywords everyday, even when looking for something on ebay. We might type ‘Poster political uk’ and we will get some specific items for sale. We just type ‘poster’ we’re innundated with everything. I have always found Jaaxy the best keyword tool. The rest can try to compete but they don’t compare. Jaaxy has everything you need to help with keywords and how to implement them 🙂

    • Strahinja says:

Yeah. Long tail keywords make much more sense beacause it is much easier to position your posts with them then just frequent keywords.

      Thank you for your comment.

  • Jenifer says:

Wow!  I had no idea there were so many keyword search tools available.

Thank you so much for sharing this post with us.  It is well written and very informative.  I like how you have a button at the end of your description we can use to explore each keyword research tool.

As a blogger, I like to choose at least 5 rich keywords related to my content and use them as my topics.  It not only helps me to develop my idea for the content, but also drives traffic to my site.

Great job!  I look forward to reading more articles from you!

    All the Best,

    • Strahinja says:

Hey Jenifer and thank you for commenting.

You are welcome. Take a look at Jaaxy if you are blogger. You will not regret it.
